Maroon Devils Down Tigers 39-7

October 15, 2018 by Toby Burrell

Bryson City – It was homecoming for the Maroon Devils this past week.  The Maroon Devils took control early and cruised to a 39-7 win over Rosman.  Swain found themselves on the other side of a ball control game.  Usually it is the Maroon Devils who play keep away from their opponent, but Friday the Tigers controlled the ball for most of the game.  It was the Maroon Devils who used a quick strike offense, while limiting Rosman big play ability.

Swain’s Bryce Sain ran for a career high 214-yards on 13 carries and scored a career high 5 touchdowns.  Swain ran for 348-yards on the ground, averaging 10.2 yards per carry.  Damian Lossiah finished with 62-yards, while Ian Brooks ran for 47-yards.

It was the Swain defense that took center stage, and stayed on the field for much of the night.  Thomas Allen tallied 15 tackles, 2 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.  Hunter Burrell and Jake Langston also finished with double figure tackles, Burrell with 12 and Langston with 11.  Charlie Lambert finished with 9 on the night as well.

Despite allowing 49 pass attempts on the night, the Devils kept Rosman out of the endzone, and forced the Tigers to complete mostly short passes.  Swain’s Bryce Sain and Brandyn Salinas came away with interceptions, while the secondary defended and batted down balls all night.  Senior Jacob Waldroup had 2 passes defended, while as a team Swain had 6.
