Hayesville – The Swain Maroon Devils soccer team had a rough start in their first conference game of the season. The Devils traveled to Hayesville on Wednesday night to take on the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets are led by Senior Mars Hill commit Justin Race. The Devils were caught on their heels most of the game as Hayesville jumped out to a quick 5-0 halftime lead. In the second half Swain answered with two goals scored by Senior Trey Bowman while Hayesville added 5 more of their own.
On defense Junior Aiden Pond and Freshman Travis Franklin led the way with 10 clears/steals each, followed by Sophomore Zachary Cline and Sophomore Booth Bassett with 5. In goal, Sophomore Chase Burrell recorded 9 saves and Junior Hunter Craig recorded 12 saves.
