Cherokee – The Swain Lady Devils soccer team traveled to Cherokee on Monday night to take on the Lady Braves. The Lady Devils came away with a 4-0 win. Thirteen minutes into the game Junior Kyndall Cochran scored her first goal of the night off of a pass from Freshman Isabelle Green. The Lady Devils would not score again until the second half when Cochran would score three more goals assisted by Green and Junior Jessie Richards.
On the defensive side Senior Alana Booth lead the way with 10 clears/steals, followed by Freshman Bri Ross with 9 and Junior Jessie Richards with 6. In goal Freshman Maddie Lay and Senior Josie Parker held the Lady Braves scoreless. The Swain Player of the Game was Junior Kyndall Cochran. “Kyndall did a great job finishing and getting through the defense.” said Coach Scott Cline. “Overall we played well after we adjusted to the surface”.
Currently in the Smoky Mountain Conference Green is first in assists (5th in the state at 1A), Duncan is fifth in the conference in assists (9th state 1A), Cochran is second in the conference in goals scored (3rd state 1A) and Parker is first in Saves in the conference. “Another stat that we do not have rankings for is steals/clears,” said Cline. “I would think that Bri would be one of the top players in that category.”
