Rabun Gap – The Lady Devils resumed play this week with an ambitious schedule. Thursday Swain played Rabun Gap Nacooche in a double header, and will finish the week Friday with a double header against Blue Ridge. The Lady Devils are off to a good start as they swept Rabun on Thursday taking both ends of the double header.
In game one the Lady Devils used solid hitting in back of freshman Stacey Griggs. Griggs was dominant in the circle, tossing her first varsity no-hitter. To top it off Griggs only faced the minimum in her 4 innings, notching the 10th perfect game in school history. Griggs struck out 10 of the 12 batters she faced as they other two grounded out, and issued no walks.
At the plate the Lady Devils had 13 hits in scoring the 15-0 win. Leading the way were seniors Grace Cabe and Alyssa Haymond who had 3 hits heach, while Griggs and Kenzie Eagleman had 2 hits each. Haymond and Griggs drove in 3 runs each, while Cabe added a pair of rbi. Cabe, Eagleman, Shayne Catolster and Raeann Hoke each score a pair of runs.
In game two the Lady Devils turned to Griggs in the circle again. This time Griggs tossed a 1-hit shutout, walking 5 and striking out 5. The 1 hit she yielded came in the bottom of the 4th. Kierra Shook caught both games, turning in stellar work behind the plate.
Swain scored 5 in the first and added 7 more in the 4th and final inning to take a 16-0 win in the second game. The Lady Devils got solid production throughout their lineup. Griggs added 3 more hits in 4 trips to the plate. Alyssa Haymond, Kyndle Jones and Kele Eagleman all had a pair of hits. Jones drove in 3 runs, while Kele Eagleman, Griggs and Haymond all drove in 2 runs. Bekka Wolfe and Raeann Hoke both collected their first varsity hit.
The Lady Devils return home today for a conference double header with Blue Ridge. Start time will be 4 o’clock.
