The Swain Lady Devils soccer team took on the Mitchell Mountaineers on Friday night at the Swain Memorial Stadium. The Lady Devils fought hard for a 2-1 win. “The girls battled all the way to the end of the game,” said Coach Scott Cline. “Mitchell had us on our heels the last 5 minutes of the game. The girls persevered and held Mitchell off for the win.”
Early on in the game Senior Mae Duncan made a beautiful shot from right outside the 18 yard box to put the Lady Devils up 1-0. Later in the half Junior Kyndall Cochran found the back of the net to put the Lady Devils up 2-0. Mitchell scored later in the first half making the score 2-1 going into halftime. Neither team scored in the second half.
On the defensive side Freshman Bri Ross led the way with 26 clears/steals, followed by Sophomore Peyton Hines with 12 and Junior Jessie Richards with 8. In goal Senior Josie Parker recorded 9 saves.
The Swain Player of the game was Freshman Bri Ross. “Bri did a great job on the defensive side,” Cline said. “She stayed engaged the whole game and showed great leadership on the back defensive line.”
