The Swain Lady Devils soccer team visited Mitchell High School on Friday night in a non-conference matchup. The Lady Devils jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead from a cross from Senior Mae Duncan to Junior Aliyah Bigmeat. It did not take long for Mitchell to answer to tie the game at 1-1. The Lady Devils responded with a goal from Senior Brynnae Rhinehart off of a pass from Junior Kyndall Cochran. MItchell answered again making the score 2-2. Rhinehart went down later in the first half with a knee injury after her legs were taken out from underneath her by the Mitchell goalkeeper. “It was the second knee injury for a Swain Senior after Brette Pattillo went down in the second game of the season.” said Coach Scott Cline, “They are both major losses for our team, but I hate it the most for the girls to have to deal with this their Senior year.”
Five minutes into the second half the Lady Devils scored again when Cochran found the back of the net off of a pass from Junior Jessie Richards. Mitchell scored again 28 minutes into the second half with a converted penalty kick. Cochran once again found the back of the net 30 minutes into the second half securing the 4-3 win for the Lady Devils.
On the defensive side Freshman Bri Ross led the way with 27 clears/steals, followed by Senior Alana Booth and Junior Jessie Richards each with 11. In goal Senior Josie Parker recorded 10 saves.
The Swain Player of the game was Junior Kyndall Cochran. “Kyndall showed a lot of confidence on the ball and getting it moved around.” Cline said. “She played really well up front and came back to help on the defensive end when needed.”
