Bryson City – The Maroon Devils held off a Hayesville comeback in the top of the 7th to take a 4-3 Smoky Mountain Conference win Tuesday. Swain entered the 7th leading 4-1, before the Jackets scored their 2 runs. Hayesville had the tying run on 2nd base, when Dylan Smith coaxed a groundout to end the game.
Swain took the lead in the 5th inning. Trailing 1-0 Trae Bradley worked a walk to lead off the inning. Dawson Lowe followed with a single down the left field line. Mikel Laws singled to score Bradley and tie the game. Jordan McGaha then hit a sacrifice fly to score Lowe from 3rd and give Swain the lead.
The Maroon Devils would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th. With one out in the inning, Craig Cutshaw doubled to the gap in right centerfield. Two batters later Trae Bradley homered to left centerfield to give Swain a 4-1 cushion heading into the 7th.
Bradley was 1-2 with 2 runs scored and a pair of rbi for the Devils. Ian Brooks was 1-1 with a pair of walks. Dawson Lowe, Mikel Laws and Craig Cutshaw were all 1-3.
Bradley also picked up the win on the hill for the Devils. He worked 6 and a third innings striking out 12. Dylan Smith came on to work two thirds of an inning and pick up the save.
