Bryson City – All was going according to script for the Lady Devils, until the 6th inning. Swain entered the 6th with a hard fought 6-2 lead over visiting Hayesville. Then disaster struck as the Jackets scored 7 runs to take a 9-6 lead. Hayesville would hold Swain off and take an eventual 9-8 win. The Lady Devils had ample opportunities as they stranded 9 runners on the day and committed 4 errors that lead to 8 unearned runs for the Jackets. The loss marked the 2nd straight on consecutive days, as they lost on Monday to Hiwassee Dam 11-1.
On Tuesday the Lady Devils tied the game in their half of the 2nd, after giving up 2 unearned runs in the 1st. Kenzie Eagleman worked a walk to open the inning. Eagleman advanced to 2nd on a Gabby Jones single. Both would score when Ayianna West doubled down the leftfield line to tie the game.
In the bottom half of the 3rd Swain took the lead. Erin Jenkins reached on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch after advancing around to third.
Swain scored 3 big runs in the 5th inning. Swain loaded the bases with back-to-back singles by Bryar Buchanan and Kenzie Eagleman. Gabby Jones and Taylor Day worked walks, with Day’s walk forcing home a run. Eagleman score a pitch later on a wild pitch. Jones scored when Ayianna West singled.
After the Jackets 7 run outburst the Lady Devils answered back in their half of the 6th. Erin Jenkins lead off with a single. One batter later Kenzie Eagleman tripled to the right field gap to score Jenkins. Alicia Green followed with a single to score Eagleman, cutting the Jacket lead to 9-8.
Ayianna West finished 3-4 with 3 rbi, while Kenzie Eagleman was 2-3 with 3 runs scored and an rbi. Grace Cabe and Bryar Buchanan had a pair of hits each, while Gabby Jones and Erin Jenkins scored a pair of runs each.
Taylor Day took a tough loss in the circle. Day yielded only 2 earned runs on the day while striking out 7 and walking 3.
