Bryson City – The Maroon Devils used a 6 run fourth inning to break open a close 2-1 game and cruise to a 9-1 victory over Cherokee on Friday. Swain also added runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th innings. Darren Blankenship went the distance for the Devils, striking out 11 and walking only 3 in earning the win.
In the decisive 4th inning Mikel Laws started things off with a double to right center. Craig Cutshaw reached base after being hit by a pitch. Dawson Chambers and Daniel Ammons followed with singles, with Chambers single scoring Laws. Cutshaw scored on a wild pitch. Chambers came around to score on a single by Trae Bradley. Ian Brooks singled as well. Ammons, Bradley and Brooks all scored on a Cherokee error.
For the Devils Mikel Laws was 2-4 with an rbi and a run scored. Dawson Chambers was 2-3 with 2 rbi and a run. Ian Brooks and Trae Bradley each drove in a run, with Bradley scoring twice for Swain.
