Bryson City – Take away a disastrous 3rd inning Friday and the Lady Devils and Robbinsville played the type of game that was expected. Unfortunately the Devils gave up 8 runs in the 3rd frame, which allowed Robbinsville to take a 15-8 win over Swain. The first three innings saw Robbinsville build a 13-0 lead over Swain. Over the course of the next four innings the Lady Devils fought back outscoring Robbinsville 8-2, but the first three innings were too much for Swain to overcome.
The Lady Devils started inching their way back into the game in the bottom of the 3rd. With one out Grace Cabe singled. Erin Jenkins reached on an error which advanced Cabe to third. Kenzie Eagleman grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Cabe with Swain’s first run.
In the fourth Swain struck for five runs. Bryar Buchanan led off the frame with her first career home run, a solo shot to straight away centerfield. The Lady Devils then loaded the bases on singles from Gabby Jones and Kyndall Jones, and a walk by Alissa Smith. Taylor Day then picked the most opportune time for her first career home run, as she squared up an o-2 pitch, driving it out to straight away centerfield for a grand slam.
In the fifth Buchanan singled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Swain finished off their scoring in the sixth. Taylor Day doubled to lead off the inning. Ayianna West, running for Day, would eventually score on a Erin Jenkins ground out.
Day finished the game 2-3 with 4 rbi and a run scored, while Buchanan was 2-4 with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Gabby Jones was also 2-4.
