Cherokee – Swain County’s Scotty McMahan has been named the Smoky Mountain Conference Coach of the Year for the 2016-17 season. McMahan guided his team to a regular season Smoky Mountain Conference Championship, Swain’s first regular season crown since 2002-03. The Maroon Devils finished with a 24-3 overall record. It marked only the second 20 win season in the last 20 years for the Maroon Devils. McMahan is now 54-49 in four seasons with the Devils.
