Bryson City – Friday’s home playoff game against North Stanly will be Swain County’s annual Toys for Tots donation game.
Toys for Tots began as a charitable effort in 1947 as Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, was inspired to start a donation organization when his wife could not find a place to donate her toys for Christmas. Their efforts were so effective that in 1948, Toys for Tots was launched as a national campaign under the Marine Corps Reserve.
The Swain High Cheerleading team has asked that all fans bring new toys to the game on Friday night and drop them off with the cheerleaders, who will be stationed at both entrances prior to the game. They will also collect monetary donations between the first and second quarters of the game. All donations will stay in Swain County and be used to get toys into the hands of needy children during this holiday season.
The Maroon Devil cheerleaders ask you to be #MaroonStrong this holiday season by helping a child in need have the Christmas they deserve. If you can’t make the game and want to contribute, please contact Sherry Wright at 488-2152.
