Cherokee- Our Maroon Devils ended their season Thursday, October 27th at Cherokee with a 2-1 win. Senior Carter Davis had a free kick 20 yards out, 21 minutes into the game, and made the first goal of the night. As Swain worked as a team, they held Cherokee back in their half for most of the first half of the game. At halftime, Swain was winning 1-0. With only 5 minutes into the second half, junior Preston Robinson took a 35 yard shot from defence which came close but no goal. 32 minutes left in the game, Swain had a free kick close to Cherokee’s goal but Cherokee’s goalie made an amazing save, keeping the score 1-0. Robinson later helps junior Brody Randell, goalie, from a fatal shot. As the second half progressed, both teams grew aggressive and took more shots, putting pressure on both goalies. Senior Drew Johnson took a shot but Cherokee’s hope grew as a player scored with 22 minutes left in the game making the score a 1-1 tie. Brazilian exchange student, Matheus Giacomelli, came in and scored 5 minutes later making the score a 2-1 win for Swain. Now, all Swain had to do was play defensively for 17 more minutes and they would win. Davis got a yellow card for a bad slide tackle and Randell made multiple saves until the buzzer sounded.
With the last win for the season in the books, Swain waits to hear if they get to participate in playoffs.
