Highlands- Our Swain Devils soccer team lost to Highlands Wednesday, October 19th which ended with a score of 1-0. After a long bus ride, Swain got off the bus ready to win. They did their usual warm up kicks and stretches. Then 6PM rolled around and the referee blew the whistle signaling the start. Junior Brody Randell showed to be a really valuable player from the many saves throughout the first half holding them back from scoring. Our Swain offence had little opportunity to take shots on the Highlands goalie but they kept pressuring Highlands. With the two evenly matched up teams battling it out for the win, the first half ended with a score of 0-0. Much like the first half, the second half consisted of Swain and Highlands going back-and-forth trying to score on the other team. Again, Randell shows to be the star player of the game by saving countless shots. Highlands, sadly, got around Swain’s defence and scored on Randell halfway through the second half. With hopes still high, Swain still fought hard to tie the game but came up short.
Swain’s last soccer games will be next Monday the 24th against Blue Ridge (away) , Wednesday the 26th against Highlands (home for senior night), and Thursday the 27th against Cherokee (away) to finish the season.
