Bryson City – For most of Thursday’s game Swain’s Taylor Day and Hayesville’s Lindsay Davis were matched in a pitchers duel. Eventually Swain broke through scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Hayesville came back and tied the game in the top of the seventh. The Lady Devils countered by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh for a walk off win.
In the seventh junior Gabby Jones hit a double off the centerfield fence. Jones advanced to third when Grace Cabe grounded out. Then with two outs junior Erin Jenkins laid down a perfect bunt to score Jones from third and seal the win for the Lady Devils.
In the top half of the seventh inning the Yellow Jackets had the bases loaded with nobody out. Swain wiggled out of the jam giving up only one run that tied the game at that point.
Swain opened the scoring in the fourth. Erin Jenkins reached on an error. Jenkins would then come around to score on an Alissa Smith double to right field. The Lady Devils scored again the fifth. Shayne Catolster singled to start the inning. Tori Treadway came on to run for Catolster. Treadway would score later in the inning on a ground out from Gabby Jones.
Jones would finish the game with a pair of hits a run scored and an rbi. Alissa Smith doubled and drove in a run.
Taylor Day pitched another strong game scattering only 5 hits and yielding no earned runs in her seven innings of work. Day struck out a season high 10, while walking only 1.
