Asheville – The Lady Devil softball team opened their season Wednesday. With temperatures in the low 40s and a cold 20 mph wind blowing it didn’t feel much like softball season, but Swain overcame the weather to post a 18-5 5-inning win over Asheville High. Swain scored 9 runs in the first and never looked back, getting a solid pitching performance from Taylor Day to post the win.
Day tossed a complete game walking only 1 and striking out 8 while yielding only 2 earned runs in picking up the win.
Junior Callyn Brown went 3-3 at the plate driving in a pair of runs and stole a base to put the cap on a great start to her season. Grace Cabe added a pair of hits and scored 3 times, while driving in 3 runs. Shayne Catolster, Gabby Jones, Bryar Buchanan, and Taylor Day joined Brown with 2 rbi each, while Erin Jenkins scored 3 runs and swiped a base.
Swain will open conference play with a trip to Murphy on Friday.
