Bryson City – The Michael Turner era got off to an impressive start Friday, as the Lady Devils took a 43-24 win over visiting Hayesville. Swain started red hot, as they outscored Hayesville 18-4 over the 1st quarter. Sophomore guard Lynsey Hicks started red hot, hitting her first two 3-point shots. The Lady Devil defense was smothering as they created multiple turnovers and limited Hayesville to only 4 first quarter points. For the game Swain limited Hayesville to only 19% from the floor and created 34 turnovers. After their hot start the Lady Devils found themselves in deep foul trouble for most of the remainder of the game.
Junior Maleeah Langstaff made her debut into a rousing success. Langstaff finished with a game high 12 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 4 blocked shots. Hicks and Grace Cabe joined Langstaff in double figures with 10 points each. Gabby Jones added 9 points. Hicks added 5 assists and 4 steals, while Jones finished with 4 rebounds and Tori Treadway 3 rebounds off the Swain bench.
Swain takes to the road on Tuesday as they travel to Murphy.
