Bryson City –
Swain County High School is pleased to announce that Michael Turner has been hired to coach women’s basketball at Swain. Coach Turner compiled an overall record of 102-16 while coaching Macon Middle School’s boys and Franklin High School’s junior varsity boy’s teams. For the last two years Coach Turner has been an assistant coach on the Franklin women’s team. During those two years as an assistant the Panthers compiled a 48-11 record and were conference co-champions as well as regional finalists. Turner takes over a program that has not had a winning season since the 2007-08 season. “I would like to thank the administration as well as the school board for providing me with the privilege and honor to come and be a part of the Swain County School System as a coach as well as a teacher. I am extremely excited to be afforded the opportunity to come in and help build upon the rich tradition that is associated with Swain Athletics. My hope and desire is to be able to help build a girls basketball program at Swain County that the players, coaches, students, administration and the community can all be proud of. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in building the basketball program that Swain County deserves but even more I look forward to meeting and working with the parents and student athletes that make Swain County such a special place.”
