Graham Allen works for a pin in the 160 match
Rosman – The Smoky Mountain Conference wrestling regular season championship came down to Swain and Rosman. The two teams finished the regular season with a dandy. In the end the Maroon Devils took a 45-30 win over the Tigers to claim the Smoky Mountain Conference Regular Season Championship. It is the Devils first wrestling conference championship since 2001.
Rosman dominated the lower weight classes, taking 4 of the 5 classes from 106 to 132. Jake Radford took the only win of those classes for the Devils in the 106 weight class. Radford took his match by pin.
This changes dramatically in the 138 pound weight class. Dawson Lowe took a win by pin at 138. Swain then went on to take the next 6 weight classes, losing only one and that was by forfeit in the heavyweight match, where Swain’s Corbin Wildcatt was out due to an appendectomy.
Following Lowe’s win the Devils ran off wins by Chris Miller (145), Austin Padilla (152), Graham Allen (160), Ross Ensley (170), Johnny Woodard (182), Craig Cutshaw (195), and Spencer McCoy (220). Lowe, Padilla, Allen, and Woodard all beat their opponent by pin. Ensley took a 4-3 decision, Cutshaw a 5-2 decision, Miller a technical fall with a 21-5 decision, and McCoy scored a major decision 9-1 win.
