Bryson City – The Maroon Devils used a strong performance to down an undermanned Franklin squad on Tuesday by the score of 73-3. Franklin gave up forfeits in 6 weight classes. Swain got pins in 5 of the final 7 matches of the night in posting the win.
The match started with the 106 weight class, where Jake Radford picked up a forfeit for Swain. Dwight Allen picked up a 15-2 decision in the 113 class. Allen was followed by Dylan McLeod, who got a pin with 13 seconds left in the 1st period in the 120 class.
Swain took forfeit wins in the next 4 weight classes, as Jarad Southards (126), Dawson Lowe (132), Chris Miller (138), and Austin Padilla (145) all picked up wins.
It was at this point that the Maroon Devils truly took over the match, winning 6 of the final 7 matches, 5 of which came by pin.
Senior captain Graham Allen (152) started things off, pinning his opponent at the 1:24 mark of the 1st period. Coleman Jenkins, another senior captain, pinned his man at the 1:26 mark of the 1st period. Junior Ross Ensley (170) followed with a pin at the 1:41 mark of the 1st period. Billy Manley picked up a forfeit win in the 182 class.
In each of the final two matches of the night the Maroon Devils trailed on points, but were able to reverse fortune and pin their man. First off was Gary Teesatuskie in the 220 weight class. Teesatuskie pinned his man with 1 second left in the 2nd period. Corbin Wildcatt followed Teesatuskie by pinning his man with 1:09 left in the 2nd period.
