Bryson City – Before the match Swain High paused to thank long time Coach Sonya Blankenship, then her team gave her the best present of all by sweeping Andrews. The win over Andrews gave the Lady Devils a share of the Smoky Mountain Conference Championship.
Senior Lydia Sale paced Swain with 13 kills on the evening. Back row specialist Karie Jones had 17 digs and handled 13 serves flawlessly to start the Lady Devil attack. Junior setter Autumn Brown had 22 assists to go along with 5 service aces.
With the win the Lady Devils will play Rosman in a contest at 6 o’clock this evening to decide who will be the conference’s number one seed for the playoffs. The contest will be hosted by Cherokee.
Before the game Swain honored Coach Sonya Blankenship, who has announced this season will be her last. Blankenship was presented with framed pictures from her long time assistant coaches Janet Shuler and Tiffany Walker, as well as framed prints from the athletic department. A banner will also be hung with the retired numbers in Blankenship’s honor.
