Waynesville-It took a strong 4th quarter for the Maroon Devils to overcome 3-0 deficit and take a 7-3 non-conference win over Tuscola. Both teams were plagued by fumbles and penalties that stalled promising drives all night. Each team had 6 fumbles on the night, enough to stagnate any offense.
In the end senior Spencer McCoy came up huge for the Devils. McCoy forced a crucial Mountaineer turnover with a big hit. Then it would be McCoy who would score from 6 yards out to put the Devils on top.
The Mountaineers seemed poised to take the lead back as they drove to the Maroon Devil 1 yard line. After being stopped on 3rd down Tuscola went for win on 4th and goal from the one. A host of Devils, lead by McCoy, Taylor Oros, and Ross Ensley stopped the Mountaineer runner dead in his tracks for the biggest play of the game.
Then with their back against their own endzone, it was McCoy who broke free and raced out of the shadow of the goal line for a huge gain of 27 yards. McCoy would rush for another first down two plays later that would allow the Devils to run the clock out and take their 4th win of the season.
McCoy rushed for a game high 102 yards on 19 carries, for his first 100 yard game of the season. Swain finished with 185 yards rushing. Jordan Cody finished with 59 all purposed yards. While Kobe Toineeta, who same his first action of the season, had 3 catches for 25 yards.
