BRYSON CITY – The Maroon Devil soccer team took a page out of the football teams playbook Wednesday. Swain took defending Smoky Mountain Conference Champion Murphy to overtime before pulling out a 5-4 win.
Murphy roared out on top taking a 3-0 lead. Swain tied the score at 3-3 with 12 minutes left in the match. Murphy went ahead again moments later with a cross and finish on the back post. Swain was able to level the score at four before regulation ended when Nick Callahan was fouled in the penalty box. Mordhorst converted the penalty kick
to send the match into two ten minute overtime periods.It was Mordhorst who scored the go ahead goal halfway through the first overtime and the devil defense held for the remainder of the match to preserve the victory.
