  • We had to dig way back in the archives, and we could have missed something, but we believe this to be only the second meeting between the two schools.  They played last in 1983, where the Mountaineers took a 36-6 win.
  • Tuscola is 2-1 on the season with wins over Cherokee and East Rutherford, and their lone loss coming to TC Roberson.  Meanwhile the Maroon Devils had their 21 game regular season winning streak snapped last week at Franklin, Swain’s wins have come against East Henderson, Smoky Mountain, and North Henderson.
  • This is the final non-conference game for both schools, as next week Tuscola hosts Smoky Mountain in their conference opener, while the Maroon Devils travel to Robbinsville for a game with huge state wide implications, as both are ranked in the state’s top 10.
  • Statistically Speaking
    • Tuscola
      • (#16)Bryce Myers leads the Mountaineers with 501 yards on 51 carries and 7 TDs, this coming in only 3 games for 167 yard per game average.
      • (#11)Woody Cornwell is 17 for 26 with 178 yards and a TD on the season.
      • (#40)Jon Martinez & (#23)Cody Wood pace Tuscola on defense with 25 and 21 tackles.
    • Swain
      • (#22)Spencer McCoy leads the Devils in rushing with 480 yards and 5 TDs, for an average of 120 yards per game.
      • (#5)Raymius Smith is 27 of 49 for 455 yards and 4 TD.  Smith is only 1 of 4 players to have thrown for over 3000 yards in his career at Swain.
        • With his 205 yards passing last week he moved past Scotty McMahan on the all-time passing list with 3226 yards, and is second only to Heath Shuler.
        • Swain’s top 4 career passers (Com-Att-Yds-TDs):
        • Heath Shuler               389               695                 7045             73
        • Raymius Smith           175               284                 3226             45
