The Maroon Devils opened their conference season in grand fashion Monday, with a 2-1 win over Murphy. Not only was the win a conference win for Swain, it also was on the road.
Murphy got on the board first, finding the back of the net at the 20 minute mark of the first half. Enter Geraldo Papa, the Devils foreign exchange student from Brazil. Papa tied the match just before the intermission, and gave the Devils their margin for victory with his second goal. The game winner came on a 20 yard free kick that found the net.
Swain is now 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in SMC play.
