Swain County High School Game Notes vs Smoky Mountain 8/30/13 – Home Opener

  • The Maroon Devils have won the last 5 meetings in the series, with the Mustangs last win coming in 2007 by the score of 9-0.
  • Swain has now won 19 straight regular season games and 21 straight games here at Swain County Memorial Stadium.  Their last regular season loss was to Franklin in 2011 by the score of 14-6.  Their last loss at home was to Robbinsville in 2010 by the score of 25-0.
  • Chasing Milestones
    • Senior Raymius Smith is 136 passing yards shy of 3000 for his career at Swain.  Only 3 quarterbacks in school history have surpassed the 3000 yard passing mark for their careers (Heath Shuler 7045 yds, Scotty McMahan 3214, and Michael Watson 3014).
    • Smith’s 61.7% career completion mark is the best in school history by a wide margin, next closest is McMahan’s 57.31% completion mark.
    • Smith’s career numbers at Swain are 152-246 for 2864 yards and 42 touchdowns (second only to Shuler’s 73 TDs).
    • Including his time at Cherokee Smith is now 240-406 for 4390 yards and 58 touchdowns for his high school career.

Coach Neil Blankenship is approaching a couple of milestones with coaching wins. Currently he is 7th on the All-Time wins list of Swain coaches with 16 career wins, with his next win he will move to a tie with Milt Barden with 17 and one win behind 5th place all-time, which is Howard Barnwell with 18 wins.  As a side note former Smoky Mountain & Swain coach Boyce Deitz has the most wins in Swain history with 201.
