Newcomer Spencer McCoy delivered in an unexpected way in his first game as a Maroon Devil. McCoy rushed for 152 yards on 17 carries, adding a touchdown for good measure. Quarterback Raymius Smith added a 71 yard touchdown strike to Jordan Cody for the Devils other score of the night. Smith finished with 93 yards on 4 completions.
On the night it was the Devils defense that limited East Henderson to 104 yards of total offense in posting the shutout. East had only 17 yards rushing on 25 carries on a night dominated by the Devils front seven. Junior Taylor Oros led the Devils with 10 tackles and a sack, while senior Zach Weeks added 8 tackles, while Jeremy Saunooke and Dylan Morgan added 5 tackles each.
Swain will host Smoky Mountain this week in their home opener, kickoff is set for 7:30 from Swain County Memorial Stadium.
