The Maroon Devils suffered the same fate as conference champion and unbeaten Hayesville, as they had their season ended by Lincoln Charter School. Swain committed 7 errors in dropping a 15-2 decision to the Charter school.
Lincoln Charter, one of the growing number of Charter schools in NC, is allowed to pull, or recruit, student athletes from their local districts. Despite being bound by the same NCHSAA rules as schools like Swain and Hayesville, the Charter schools are allowed to “recruit” athletes to suit their program and are rapidly taking over the NCHSAA landscape, particularly in the 1A and 2A ranks.
Dylan Rose and Clay Young had a pair of hits each for the Devils who managed 9 hits against Lincoln Charter pitching. Cody Dills, Tanner Burrell, Bronson Lindsay, Taylor Jones joined Rose and Young as getting hits in their final game as Maroon Devils.
Swain ends their season with a 15-6 overall mark.
