Devils Advance With 12-0 Shutout

May 10, 2013 by Toby Burrell

Tanner Burrell went 3-3 and drove in a pair of runs

Swain scored 10 runs over the final 2 innings to break open the game and take a 12-0 win over Blue Ridge in the 1st round of the NCHSAA baseball playoffs on Tuesday.

Senior third baseman Tanner Burrell staked the Devils to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Burrell’s home run, his 3rd of the season, scored Cody Dills, who had singled to start the game.

Jacob Cutshaw picked up the win, scattering 5 hits and striking out 4 over his 5 innings of work.  Zach Weeks worked a perfect 6th inning in relief of Cutshaw.

Swain will advance and host Lincoln Charter, who upset the #1 ranked Yellow Jackets of Hayesville.  First pitch is set for Tuesday at 6 o’clock.
