In one bold win the Devils have put themselves back into the hunt for finishing second in the Smoky Mountain Conference. Tuesday the Devils took an exciting 42-40 win from second place Cherokee. Now, with a Cherokee win over Murphy, the Devils will find themselves in a three way tie for second place.
With the match tied the Devils got a crucial loss from John Miller, wait a minute, loss?? Yes Miller lost his match, but most importantly he did not get pinned, which gave the Braves 4 points instead of 6, which happened to be the final margin for the Devils victory, 2 points.
After Miller’s loss the Devils won three straight matches. Russell Bigmeat (132) and Sean Webb (145) were both expected. But Matt Waldroup (138) picked up one of the most important wins of the night as he pinned his man, after nearly being pinned in the first period, to give the Devils a crucial 6 points. The wins by Bigmeat, Waldroup, and Webb gave the Devils a 14 point lead heading into the final two matches. Cherokee would take wins in both matches by pin, giving them 12 points, but leaving them 2 points shy and giving Swain the win.
