Heading into the 2012 season most people acknowledged that the Maroon Devil receiving tandom of Matthew Maennle and Greg Tisho was one of the best in WNC. But few could have guessed that the duo would end up assaulting the Swain High record books in the manner that they have.
In Swain’s illustrious history only one player, Marty Burns, has surpassed 1000 receiving yards in a season, that is prior to this season. Greg Tisho went over 1000 last friday night and now has 1026 yards on the season. To top that off, Matthew Maennle is only 42 yards shy of going over a 1000 as well. So, to put it in perspective, both Maroon Devil receivers are on pace to go over 1000 yards receiving on the season.
Not to be out done in the record setting department Maennle became SCHS’ all time leader in every receiving statistical category (121 catches 2246 yards and 31 touchdowns for his career). To top things off last week he broke the school record with his 16th touchdown reception this season, breaking the old record of 15. In case you were wondering Tisho has 15 on the season.
Combined the duo has 99 catches for 1984 yards and an amazing 31 touchdowns. Crazy numbers for a school that traditionally makes their living running the football.
One thing is for sure, it certainly has been entertaining to watch, and if we are lucky the duo is far from finished.

could this team, combined with last year’s, be the best ever in Devil history? I know Heath won 3 in row, but the stats, wins, all school records! But, they are on run like the program has never seen!
