Swain finished third in the Smoky Mountain Conference cross country championships. The Devils scored 80 points on the course in Cherokee. Hayesville won the conference championship with 37 points, with Murphy second at 65 points.
Swain’s Russell Bigmeat was their top finisher. Bigmeat was 8th overall with a time of 19:19.04. Finishing just behind Bigmeat was Alex Cook. Cook was 12th with a time of 19:47.69. Sam Dickson (18th, 21:08.59), Harlin Moody (19th, 21:09.23), and Nate Southards (23rd, 21:40.87) rounded out the Swain scorers on the day. Ryan Bennett and Alex Pilon also ran for Swain.
Next up the Devils will return to Cherokee this Saturday for the Western Regional Championships, which is the start of the NCHSAA playoffs for cross country.
