Hiwassee Dam
The 2012 edition of the Lady Devil cross country team has made huge strides this year. So far they have notched multiple 2nd place finishes, and in doing so have raised eyebrows across the conference. This past week they made a strong statement as a contender for the conference crown with a first place finish at Hiwassee Dam. Finishing first is notable for several reasons, first it puts them in the thick of the race and secondly it may very well have been the first ever first place finish in school history. (If anyone knows of another first place finish for our women’s cross country team, please let us know.)
Lauren Shell and Blair Allman continued their run as the Lady Devils top duo by finishing 5th and 6th respectively. But it was junior Tori Swartz who pushed the Devils over the top. Swartz came in with the best finish of her career in 12th place. Add those finishes to Erin Zwich, who was 14th, and Autumn Demonet, who was 18th, and you come up with 55 points. The 55 points is the ladies best score of the year, by far, and perhaps one of the best ever for the Devils.
Coach Burrell says
Congrats ladies, still saying its the first (ever), until I hear different!
