In Honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Swain High Female Athletes, Band Members, Cheerleaders, and HOSA members are hosting a “Check your Ta-Ta’s Party.” This informational only event (no exams will be done this day) will promote the importance of self breast examination. Ninety-one high school females from the above group have committed to bring atleast one person to this event which will be held on Saturday, October 6th. With cooperation from Westcare and the Swain County Health Department, there will be medical personnel presenting on the importance of self breast examination, how to do a correct self exam, what you should do should you find a lump, and to answer any questions. The 91 girls will not only bring atleast one person, but they are agreeing to be that person’s buddy and to remind them monthly to do their self exam. Athletes, Band Members, Cheerleaders, and HOSA members participating will be recognized at the Home Football game on Friday, September 28th during half time. They will be wearing pink t-shirts with the names of their mothers, grandmothers, or Swain County Schools staff who have battled breast cancer whom this event is also in honor of. Please contact Sherry Wright at Swain County High School with any questions.
