MURPHY, WNC – Murphy scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th with a controversal sacrifice fly. Swain claimed the runner who scored failed to tag up on the fly ball, but the home plate umpire called the runner safe allowing the winning run to score.
The umpire made the call with his back turned as he was walking off the field, which brought Swain coach Eric Cantrell out to argue the call.
Dylan Rose and Zach Shuler drove in a pair of runs each for the Devils, while Tanner Burrell had 3 hits and scored twice.
With the loss the Devils fall to third in the SMC.
