BRYSON CITY, WNC – The Lady Devil track team used their overall depth in events to take first place at the Cherokee meet last week. Swain got five first place finishes, but a whole host of other top five finishes to take first place with 128 points. The Devils outdistanced Hayesville’s 119 points, Cherokee, Rosman, and Highlands participated as well.
Senior Morgan Lowe took two individual first place finishes in the meet. Lowe won the high jump, and finished first in the 100 meter hurdles. In the hurdles Lowe, Savannah Shuler (2nd) and Victoria Phong (4th) capped off a first, second, and fourth finish.
Lydia Sale picked up a first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.30. But the Lady Devils depth was on display again as they took first, second, and fourth. Alyssa Robinson was second with a time of 13.56, while Jenea Bentivogili was fourth with a time of 13.80. Robinson took top honors in the 200 meter dash, as she finished with a time of 28.93.
Blair Allmand and Melody Little turned in a pair of second place finishes. Allman was second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:46.82. Little was second in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:12.02. Savannah Shuler took third in the 300 meter hurdles.
Stevie Sutton and Ashley Frady continued their strong showing in the field events. Sutton and Frady were second and third in the shot, and then third and fourth in the discus. Lydia Sale was second in the long and triple jumps.
The 4×100 team of Alyssa Robinson, Jenea Betivogili, Lydia Sale, and Mary Shell took first place in the event with a time of 57.08.
