BRYSON CITY, WNC – The Maroon Devil baseball team reeled off two more wins this past week to move to 8-2 on the season. First they took a 2-1 win over Murphy and then made short work of Andrews by the score of 14-1 in five innings.
Tuesday the Devils moved to 5-1 in conference play with the five inning win over Andrews. Lee Pattillo and Tanner Burrell drove in three runs each, while Burrell added three hits as well. Cody Dills and Clay Young each were 2-2 and Dills drove in two runs.
On the mound Dylon Winchester picked up the win, pitching three strong innings. Winchester struck out five and gave up no hits or walks. Tanner Burrell and Tyler Cook pitched the fourth and fifth to finish up the win for Winchester.
It was Winchester who spun a gem from the mound last week as the Devils downed Murphy. Winchester scattered four hits and struck out four in picking up the win for the Devils.
Swain managed only one hit in the game, but was able to push across Zach Shuler and Dylan Rose for the two crucial runs. Cody Epps singled for the Devils only hit of the game.
