BRYSON CITY, WNC – Swain County refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Hiwassee Dam, recording a 17-3 victory on Tuesday.
Twelve runs in the first three innings allowed Swain County to put the game away early.
An RBI single by Maggie Sutton and in the first inning and an RBI single by Brooke Coggins, an RBI single by Sutton, and in the second inning helped Swain County put some runs on the board early.
Sutton racked up five RBIs on four hits for Swain County.
Lovingood had a good game at the plate for Hiwassee Dam. Lovingood went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. Lovingood doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning.
Richelle Jenkins got the win for Swain County. She allowed three runs over five innings. The Swain County pitcher struck out four, walked two and surrendered six hits.
The top of the first saw Hiwassee Dam take an early lead, 2-0. Hiwassee Dam’s rally started when M Helton singled. A groundout by Golden then moved Helton from first to second. Lovingood doubled, bringing home Helton. Hiwassee Dam pushed more runs across when Lovingood scored on a wild pitch.
Swain County built upon its lead with seven runs in the third. Brittany Shuler’s double got things going, plating Nerissa Woodard and Breanna Bryant That was followed up by Nikki Cody’s single, plating Shuler.
Swain County tacked on another five runs in the fifth. Jessica Winchester kicked things off with a single, scoring Bryant. That was followed up by that scored Woodard.
